Externally the sanctuary looked as the real fortress on the high coast of Desna: deep ditch, high horseshoe shaft and walls (fencing?) on the upper edge of a platform. Diameter of roundish (nowadays triangular) platform was about about 60 m, i.e. equaled to diameter of marsh ancient settlements of the average size.
Almost perfect analogy to a devichgorsky altar is presented by an altar with nine holes from the Moravian ancient settlement with the curious name of Poganskoye. Date its beginning of the X century, time of pagan restoration in Moravia.
